Knitting for Olive are a family-run business based in Copenhagen, Denmark. They are surrounded by lots of kids, who give them countless inspiration and ideas - they always have new patterns in the making. Mother and daughter Pernille and Caroline create knitting patterns and high-quality yarn with respect for animals and the environment, producing yarn and designing knitting patterns firstly for the little ones you love – and now for you, too.
At the end of 2015, KfO started selling knitting patterns for babies and toddlers. They quickly expanded to children’s sizes as well, and in 2018 designed their first adult-sized patterns.
To be able to give you the best knitting experience, they then decided to offer Knitting for Olive yarns. Their vision is to offer high-quality yarns made of pure natural fibres created with respect for both the animals and our environment. It's their goal to be honest and transparent in everything they do and, in this way, create awareness about animal welfare in yarn production.
Yarns
The vision has been to create delicate, environmental- and animal friendly yarns. All of KfO's yarns are made from 100% natural materials, in a good quality, in a multitude of elegant and thoughfully curated colours with a distinct Scandinavian aesthetic.
All of the Knitting for Olive yarns consist of 100% natural fibres and are produced with respect for animals and our environment. KfO believes in high-quality yarn made of pure natural fibres, and do their very best to create yarn in a beautiful, carefully selected, range of colours.
- The merino wool comes from an organic farm in Patagonia where mulesing is not allowed, and is then made into yarn in Italy following ethical and environmental guidelines to create a yarn free from harmful chemicals.
- Mohair comes from goats raised in South Africa according to humane standards. They categorically reject any mistreatment of animals in the mohair industry or elsewhere. The fibre is certified, which guarantees good conditions for animals, farmers and production workers.
- Silk fibres are collected from cocoons after the caterpillars are allowed to mature into moths and escape. This means that the silk worms are not killed in the process as they are in conventional silk production.
- Organic cotton is used in Cotton Merino.
- Yarn is spun in Italy where the spinning mill follows ethical, technical and environmental standards, creating yarns free from harmful chemicals.
- Yarn labels are made of recycled paper. This is why the surface isn’t as shiny as on conventional labels. They also tend to crumble more.
All yarns are traceable (meaning they know exactly which farms their yarns come from). Merino from Patagonia wool is certified, which means there are strict regulations to secure animal welfare, and social welfare for our farmers.
Yarn qualities are Oeko-Tex Standard 100 verified — STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certified products have been tested for harmful substances to protect your health.
With a wonderful Scandi aesthetic, the beautiful variety of colours in each base range are carefully created and chosen from the heart.
