Naturally Yarns

Naturally Yarns was founded in the 1980s in New Zealand by Went Ferdinands who had a dream to sell balls of yarn to every retailer in New Zealand - and he wanted it to be his own label. During a moment of contemplation on how he was going to do this, he scripted the word “Naturally” on a piece of paper and the dream came to life. The first yarns sold by Naturally were Pure Wool Natural Hanks, a natural un-dyed New Zealand spun wool. The brand was widely accepted in New Zealand and more yarns were added until a full range of New Zealand made yarns made up the collection.

The brand is now owned by Vimar 1991 s.a.s, an Italian yarn producer but the company prides itself on maintaining the "Made in New Zealand" factor in their Naturally range and supports local New Zealand wool producers wherever possible.

A note about NZ possums: Australia's brushtail possum is an introduced species in New Zealand. It has no natural predators and over time possum numbers have exploded to over 30 million. Possums have a devastating effect on the native wildlife and plant life in NZ. Decimating forests and devouring bird eggs and chicks, the environmental destruction has led to a commitment by the NZ Government to eradicate possums from all of New Zealand by 2050. 100% of possum fibre from NZ is wild caught.
