The spinsters - Kate and Rachel - began as a handspinnery back in 2004, the two of them kettle dyeing and spinning all of their yarn in small batches and selling at the local farmers’ market. When, in 2012, a little fibre mill opened its doors just south of their studio and dye house in Bellingham, Washington, they partnered with the mill to begin production of a millspun yarn that would maintain the look of their handspun yarn but could be produced at a much faster pace.
Turns out that was a pretty good idea. In the summer of 2017, Kate and Rachel bought that mill and moved the whole operation up to Bellingham, and under one roof. They now dye, spin, design, package and ship everything from their little warehouse on Queen Street. They offer a range of yarns, as well as an ever-growing selection of knitting patterns that highlight the uniqueness of their yarns. All of Spincycle yarns are dyed in the wool, a slow and meticulous process resulting in long colour changes and unpredictable transitions through the skein... Every skein is like a snowflake! Or a fingerprint! One-of-a-kind, like every handmade project.
If you haven't tried Spincycle Yarns then find a pattern you love and treat yourself. They are truly wonderful.
All yarns are dyed in the wool, resulting in intense saturation and unpredictable colour changes. Skeins within a dye lot will blend together beautifully for a larger project, yet every skein is one-of-a-kind and we can never predict the way that a colour will be from batch to batch.
A note about Spincycle Yarn's manufacturing process:
Because of the nature of their beautiful yarns, Spincycle Yarns open up their wholesale ordering to LYS all around the world at the same time. When the ordering window has closed and the orders have been received, they then produce their gorgeous yarns in batches - one colour at a time.
For this reason we receive our yarns from Spincycle in somewhat irregular and haphazard deliveries. Often we're unsure when to expect the next delivery or, for that matter, what will be delivered and when! If you can't find the colour you love, simply use the 'Notify Me' button on the website and you'll receive an email when the yarn arrives.
