Our by Skein Sisters Knitting Dollys are great for beginners starting to learn to knit. You'll love the cute appearance and bright colours of these knitting dollys which are made from wood and metal. The ergonomic, smooth surface of the wooden handle body and the sturdy mini knitting needle allow you to start producing masses of knitted tubing (also known as i-cord) quickly and easily.
Knitting Dollys are also known as French knitters, spool tools and cord makers. They're fun, entertaining and educational for all, including kids, who are interested in an easy intro to knitting. You'll learn to handle yarn and a short knitting needle, plus the mechanism allows you to see how knitted stitches are made from interlocking loops of a single strand of yarn.
Compact and portable, the dollys can be used with yarn of various thicknesses and fibre composition - try wool, cotton, alpaca and various blends. Each dolly comes with the dolly handle body, plus a short knitting needle which can be stored inside the handle when not in use.
There's a choice of styles to select from: the red is slightly shorter with blunt ended pegs, and the pink has loop style pegs.
There are a wide variety of possible projects to make with your dolly including bracelets, long plaits, necklaces, drawstrings, handles, and decorations... add some sparkle to your knitting by threading beads onto your yarn as you go.
How to use:

- Thread the yarn tail down the centre of your dolly (make a slip knot and use a crochet hook to catch the loop and pull it through).
- Holding the dolly in your left hand (or right hand if you're left-handed), wrap the working yarn around the first peg clockwise (from right to left). Do this with all four pegs, turning the dolly in a clockwise direction.
- Wrap another row of yarn around the four pegs as above.
- Using your needle, pick up the bottom wrap on the first peg and lift it over the top wrap and off the peg . Do this with all four pegs, turning the dolly in a clockwise direction. You've now worked a row of knit stitches. Pull gently on the yarn tail to tighten.
- Repeat the above two steps until your cord is the desired length.
To fasten off:
- Transfer the first stitch from the first peg to the second peg. Pick up the bottom wrap on the second peg and knit it. Repeat until there's one stitch left on your pegs.
- Cut your yarn and thread it through the last remaining stitch to secure.
