Why you will love knitting socks...
- Hand-knitted socks are special, practical and durable, and make cherished and thoughtful gifts for family and friends.
- Sock projects are extremely portable so you can easily grab them and go — perfect for knitting on public transport, in waiting rooms, at kid's activities, and more.
- The small size makes socks quicker to knit and you'll use less yarn than larger projects - you can knit a pair from one skein of 4ply yarn.
- Fantastic fit...you can adjust your socks' dimensions to fit your feet perfectly.
- Create your very own one-of-a-kind pair by adding stitch textures, colourwork, lace, cables, braids (or whatever you like) to your favourite vanilla sock pattern.
- You'll generally improve your knitting skills as you progress through different patterns and designs.
- Sock knitting offers the same benefits of mindfulness and relaxation as other types of knitting.
- Connection to tradition and community... plus so much more!
In this class you will knit a sock from the cuff down using your choice of double pointed needles, two circular needles or one long circular needle (magic loop). This top-down method allows you to focus on your stitch pattern and yarn choice, and you can try on the sock as you knit for a well-fitting and comfortable pair of socks.
Many knitters find that learning to knit socks from the top down is a great way to get started. You will progress through all of the techniques needed for the different sections of your sock (cuff, leg, heel, gusset, instep, foot and toe) and you'll leave with your sock on your needles, ready to finish at home.
Skill level: suitable for an advanced beginner / intermediate knitter. You should be competent in small circumference knitting - either using the 'magic loop' method or dpns before taking this class.

Jane is a member of the Knitters’ Guild of NSW. She teaches adults and children in both open classes and one-on-one classes, from beginner to more advanced techniques. She's often described as a very patient teacher!
